Stress Relieving Strategies

This thing called stress is a serious thing and can do alot of harm to the body. In today’s society it’s seen as something that we should just accept and carry on. Controlling stress involves taking into consideration your thoughts, what you put into your body and your everyday interaction and routines. Dealing with stress is easier said than now….I know! However, with a constant effort of exercising certain habbits it can be achieved. Here are a list of stress controlling strategies I include in my everday life.

1. Reduce Commitment

There is alot of pressure that comes with commitment especially when its coming from people that you love. Can you do this for me? Can you send me that? Can you take care of this for me? It all can be overwhelming and because I dont want to hurt anyone’s feelings, I’d cave in and say yes. You have to decide if this is worth your time and energy. If not that’s just clutter that you don’t need in your life.

Its ok to say No

I have learned that it is ok to say no. Somethings you just cant do and thats okay. You have to take care of yourself and this is the first step that leads to me time….Invest in yourself!
2.

I usually take at least 10 minutes out of my daily routine to take a breath.

Inhale deeply (on your tippy toes)….Exhale (hmmmm relax flat on you feet)

Meditate for at least 5 minutes to declutter your mind from negative thoughts and ultimately the body is rid of any negative energy. My fav ❤

3. Himalyan Salt Lamp

Salt lamps are not your regular household lamps. These lamps have negative ions that are released in order to neutralize radiation from electronics such as microwaves. Salt Lamp also prevent any static buildup within the home. Himalayan Salt lamps cleans the air, increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain and this helps me to sleep like a baby.

4. Stop Procrastination

This is never good. Being indecisive causes alot of stress because the only thing that’s being done is just stuff piling up on each other. Nothing is being done because you cant decide and at the end of the day youre just stressed out. I started to take care of things as they arise and this has reduced my procrastination tendencies.

5. Plan

My planner has come in very handy. Before I would say I’m going to buy or do something and when the time comes I could not remember and I used to get so frustrated and stressed. But now I write it down and whenever I go out I dont have to try to remember what I needed to get. Great for scheduling events and keeps you one step ahead. Invest in a planner

 6. Eat healthy/ Exercise

So I’m so flawed when it comes to this ugh however, I have cut beef and pork out of my diet. It was really hard 😩. Pork and beef just sit up in your body causing alot of mood swings and depression. I try to eat at least 1 servings of fruit per day and add as much green as I possibly can. Recently I’ve been loving quinoa and been eating alot of fish. I work out atleast 2 times a week lol babysteps.

7. Take a Bath

This helps you to calm and relax. Actually I learnt that being horizontal in the water helps with your mood. Our bodies relate the the calmness, positioning of our bodies along with the warmth of the bath to the womb and this eases our body and mind. I also add bath salts, essential oils, sometimes natural bathbombs and herbal mixtures to my bath. Similar article here

8. Drinking Tea

In Jamaica we drink tea for everything under the sun😂 lol. The ritual of making the tea and drinking it is a great way I use to relieve stress. Herbal teas contain amino acid that produces a calming nature in the body and awakens the mind. It’s aroma helps to foster positive energy leaving you with a soothing feeling.

Before you go I’d love to hear from you; what are some stress relieving strategies that you use in your life?

Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey

Jamaican born national hero, Hon. Marcus Mosiah Garvey is one of the greatest human beings to have ever lived. He founded  the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League and the Black Star Line ship. A ship that is aimed at the return of African back to the homeland.

His Pan-African philosophy and ideals inspired Africans everywhere and created a global movement called Garveyism; a proud member of a movement, I joined my second year in college. His movement can be seen in primary schools all the way to the Rastafarian belief system.

Here are 10 Marcus Garvey quotes for days that seem overwhelming and needs a sprinkle of black magic. ✨✨

“If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life.”

“Liberate the minds of men and ultimatley you will liberate the bodies of men.”

“The black skin is not a badge of shame, but rather a glorious symbol of national greatness.”

“God and nature first made us what we are, and then out of our own created genius we make ourselves what we want to be. Follow always the great law. Let the sky and God be our limit and eternity our measurment.”

“If we as a people realize the greatness from which we come, we would be less likely to disrespect ourselves.”

“With confidence, you have won before you have started.”

“Never forget that intelligence rules the world and ignorance carries the burden. Therefore remove yourself as far as possible from ignorance and seek as far as possible to be intelligent.”

“Up, you mighty race, accomplish what you will.”

“Whatsoever things common to man, that man has done, man can do.”

“Remove the kinks from your mind, not your hair.”

Travelling Tips

Traveling overseas is one thing that is on most, if not all, of our bucket list. Experiencing different cultures in its various forms – history, music, people etc. is something I’ve always wanted to do. Traveling is an outer body and inner body transformation and realization that each and everyone of us should experience at some point in life. Traveling can be exciting, however, if the necessary precautions are not taken, it could go downhill. I have outlined a few things I’ve done when traveling that has helped me big time.

Money

Be sure that the specific country you are traveling to uses your credit card. Local cash is a must and this tip i learned from my mom. A day or so before you leave for your travels stop by your nearest western union store or online and send yourself some money to the destination where u are going to be. When you get to the destination stop by the closest WU store and pick up your money. Why, you ask? Typically when you bring your actual currency to these country it’s gonna be exchanged to the local currency. When it comes to the exchange of currency, there is usually a charge that cost an arm and a leg bruh! Also you dont want to use a currency that is not of the land. You dont want to stick out cause thats when you get scammed.

Important Document

Ensure you have two 2 copies of your passport, visa, greencard etc. Keep one at the place you’re staying and keep one back in your home country. In the event that you lose anything you have backup.

Accomodation

Obviously you would want to book your hotel in advance. However, like 2 weeks before you travel ensure to double check with the hotel and make sure that your room is indeed still booked cause sometimes they do overbook. I had to learn the hard way 😩(had to tell har bout har mudda cunt) 😂 dont judge🙅

Communication

Activate your phone’s roaming plan; some are free and some are not. If you dont want to do that there are a bunch of international calling apps out there such as magicjack.

Be sure to research prior hand local events, happenings, local food because the tourist treatment is not always a true representation of the culture of that country.

Hope this helps and if you have any additional tips feel free to share it in the comments.

Importance of Budgeting

The amount of time mi hear dis *B* word yah! Yes, Budget Budget Budget! Get your mind out the gutter 😂. As a millennial budgeting your money should be a priority and its so much easier with the help of apps. Money management in a time such as today is key because you never know what kind of emergencies can happen whether it be job losses or incidents you want to be prepared for the most part.

▪ Makes you aware of whats going on with your money

I know that some of you can relate when its the end of month and you get paid and like a week later you’re like where did my money go? Yeah been there…..With budgeting it makes u aware of where your money is going….what money is coming in. You are able to practice more responsible spending.

▪ Saved and Sanctified😂: Shopaholic tendencies 0……Focused 💯

Budgeting makes you more focused on your goals. It helps you to curb your spending habits.  Unnecessary spending habits is a no no gotta nip that sh*t in the bud. Trust me I’ve been there 😩😩.

▪ I Got Receipts: Maintain Organization

A budget helps you to organize your bills. When to pay what bill, gage how much money is going to that area and also gather all your reciepts in the event you have to revisit.
